Mildred Stager (nee Plesh) was born in Masontown PA on September 7, 1924 to Helen Plesh (nee Kozlevcar) and Thomas Plesh.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Lloyd, and her sisters, Mary, who died as an infant, Katherine Hanna, and Elizabeth (Bette) Elias.
She is survived by her children and their spouses, Thomas and Tanya (Monsour), Lloyd and Barbara (Mullen), and Leslie Stager and George Sukara. She dearly loved her four grandchildren, Jeffrey, Tara, Ryan, and Steven. Mildred was blessed with two great grandchildren, Reegan and Aiden.
Her greatest pleasure in life was children and was a long-time contributor to St Jude Children’s Hospital. Mildred worked for Parma Home Bakery for over 25 years and later, Helen Hutchley’s. During World War II, at 19 years old, Mildred went to Detroit to work at the Hudson Motor Car Company that had been retooled to produce airplanes for the war effort. There, she learned how to rivet and worked on the wings of the Hell Diver Airplane. Mildred was recognized by the American Rosie the Riveter Association, an affiliation of the Smithsonian Museum, as an original “Rosie the Riveter”. She was interviewed for the Veteran’s History Project and is included in the archives of the Michigan Flight Museum.
Friends will be received on Tuesday August 6, 2024 in the Terravecchia-Haky Home for Fynerals, Inc., 515 N. Main Street, Masontown, Pa., 15461, from 9-10:30 a.m., when prayers of transfer will be said.
A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 a.m. in St. Francis of Assisi Parish, 101 S. Washington St., Masontown, PA, with Rev. Teo Cortezano as Celebrant.
Interment will follow in St. Mary of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Cemetery, Leckrone, PA
A mass at St Charles Borromeo Church at 5891 Ridge Rd, Parma OH, 44129 and memorial celebration and will take place at a later date.
