With profound sadness and heartfelt appreciation for a remarkable life, the family of David R. High, age 71 announces his passing on April 17, 2026, in Ellwood City, Pa. David was born on August 14,1954 in Uniontown, PA and was the beloved son of the late James and Pauline High.
David’s love for his family was the cornerstone of his life. David is preceded in death by his father, James, mother, Pauline and sister Rita High-Sanders. He is survived by a sister Deborah High, beloved niece Christina Sanders, brother-in law, Terry Sanders, nephews, Mark Sanders and Michael Sanders, great niece Darla Sanders and great nephews Tristan and Aaron Sanders and several cousins. David will be remembered as a man of great intellect, compassion, and integrity. He will be dearly missed but never forgotten.
David was a proud alumnus of Laurel Highlands HS class of 1972. His academic journey led him to Penn State University where he earned both his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees before pursuing a Juris Doctor Degree from Duquesne University. During his time at Duquesne, he distinguished himself as Editor-in-Chief of the Duquesne Law Review, a role that highlighted his exceptional intellect and passion for law. His professional career was both illustrious and varied, reflecting his dedication to justice and an unyielding work ethic. David served with distinction as a lawyer, holding prestigious appointments with US Steel, Eckert Seamans, Todd & Silverberg and Duquesne Light Power before transitioning to retirement. His legal acumen respected by colleagues and clients alike. He was known for his integrity and unwavering commitment to his clients’ causes.
In addition to a legal career, he obtained a certificate of Ministry from the Universal Life Church demonstrating his deep spirituality and desire to serve his community in diverse ways. David was a member of the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Ellwood City.
His life was a testament to the power of compassion and understanding, a legacy that will be fondly remembered by those who had the privilege of knowing him. He was known for his quick wit, warm smile and always ready with a joke to lighten the mood. He had a gift for making everyone feel welcome and valued.
David enjoyed Music, Life, Friends and had a profound love for his beloved dogs: Pearl, Louise, Sugar, Phoebe and Abner, and was a stalwart supporter of animal rescue.
Friends will be received in the Terravecchia-Haky Home for Funerals, Inc. 515 N. Main Street, Masontown, Pa 15461 on Sunday April 26, 2026 from 12 to 4 p.m., when a service will be held in the funeral home chapel, with Pastor David Saylor officiating. Family and all whose lives were touched by David are invited to gather in remembrance and gratitude for a life well lived.
Interment will be private in Sylvan Heights Cemetery, Uniontown, Pa.
