Barry D. Kovell, age 75, of New Salem, Pa. passed away on Thursday, August 21, 2025 at Lafayette Manor, Uniontown, Pa.
He was born on Wednesday, September 21, 1949 in Uniontown, Pa., and grew up in New Salem, the son of the late Paul M. Kovell, Sr., and Marcella (Figus) Kovell.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 53 years, Lucia Kovell, children, Christopher Kovell and wife, Ashlee, Matthew Kovell and wife, Tonya, grandchildren; Zachary, Jacob, Abigail, Charlotte, Giana, Luciana and Mattaya Kovell; brothers; Paul M. Kovell, Jr., and wife, Judith, Mark Kovell and wife, Kathy, Mother-in-law Nancy Terravecchia, brothers-in-law; John Terravecchia and wife Cheryl, Philip Terravecchia and wife Susan. He was also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents and father-in-law Philip Terravecchia.
Barry was a graduate of Uniontown High School, class of 1967; afterward he earned an Associate’s Degree in Mining Technology from Penn State Fayette, using that degree to become the General Mine Foreman at Maple Creek Coal Mine. Barry then opened and became the Owner, Operator of Waynesburg Dairy Queen for 33 years. Barry was a faithful member of Saint Therese de Lisieux Roman Catholic Church, Uniontown, where he gave many hours in service; most notably serving as President of the Ushers, officer in the Boosters Club, and a member of the Finance Council. Barry was also an active member of the Sons of Italy Lodge Giuseppe Mazzini No. 231 in Uniontown, PA. Barry spent much of his remaining free time as an avid golfer, participating in several golf leagues. Above all, his greatest joy was his family. He cherished the time spent with his wife, sons, and grandchildren.
Friends will be received in the Terravecchia-Haky Home for Funerals, Inc., 515 N. Main Street Masontown, Pa., 15461, on Tuesday August 26, 2025 from 1 to 8 p.m., and Wednesday August 27, 2025 until 9:15 a.m., when Prayers of transfer will be said.
A Mass of Christian burial will follow at 10 a.m., in Saint Therese de Lisieux Roman Catholic Church, 61 Mill Street, Uniontown, Pa.
Interment will follow in Mount Macrina Cemetery, Uniontown, Pa.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Barry's memory to the Alzheimer’s Association.
